When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it can be a devastating experience for the entire family. As they undergo treatment, many families must travel to specialized medical centers to participate in clinical trials or receive specialized care. This can create a significant financial burden, as families must cover the costs of travel, lodging, and meals during an extended stay away from home.

To help alleviate this burden, many hospitals and organizations offer temporary housing for families of children participating in cancer clinical trials. This housing is often located near the medical center and provides a comfortable, supportive environment for families during their stay.

Temporary housing can offer several benefits for families of children with cancer. It can provide a place of comfort and support, and give families a chance to connect with each other when going through such a difficult time. It can also help families save money on travel and lodging expenses, allowing them to focus on their child's treatment and recovery.

We are excited to share with you all The Strong Like AK House! This temporary housing provided by Strong Like AK will offer a comfortable place for pediatric cancer patients and families to stay while receiving treatment and care through Levine Children's Cancer and Blood Disorder. This home can and will help so many and we need YOU to be a part of this impactful moment.

In October of 2019, Adam embarked on a remarkable journey to Boston, MA for an incredible clinical trial. Though initially not thrilled with the idea of being away from home and his friends, our community made sure he was comfortable by generously funding us enough money to rent an Airbnb in East Boston - giving our family six weeks away together!

Adam enjoyed having his own space like any teenager, where he could relax and escape the day-to-day. Everyday we filled our home with warmth as we took turns cooking breakfast and dinner together, watching football, and making memories that would last a lifetime. It was a blessing to have this sense of normalcy away from home for us all to be united around Adam.

Although the clinical trial was unsuccessful, our family is very grateful for the time we spent in Boston. The private home allowed us all to be together comfortably in one place and we made priceless memories we will never forget.

When Adam tragically passed away from NUT Carcinoma, we wanted to ensure his memory lived on with a meaningful initiative. We created the nonprofit organization Strong Like AK in order to support families affected by pediatric cancer and honor his legacy. Our family shared many special moments during our travels for treatment in Boston – so it was only natural that this would inspire us as an organization too! Now, other families can share memories like these when given the same extraordinary opportunity through the Strong Like AK House.

We are creating something special and unprecedented in our area with The Strong Like AK House! This beautiful home, will be completely free of charge and located in Mt. Holly, North Carolina. It will provide a welcome refuge for families dealing with uncertainty while their children undergo treatment or clinical trials. Unlike other charities which offer single rooms at no cost but come along with communal kitchens and living spaces, this unique house allows only one family to inhabit it at a time- ensuring complete privacy during such an important part of life's journey.

Join us in creating lasting change for pediatric cancer patients and their families. By donating to The Strong Like AK House Fund, you're helping keep Adam's memory alive by building a home that provides tangible support during such tough times. Now is the time - no amount is too small! Your generosity will make all the difference; let's come together and honor this special mission with our giving hearts.
